The idea of a new chapter every 6 months or so was a good idea that didn't work.
It began ok but just wasn't sustainable, which is why they changed to starting again with GW2.

2 new chapters each with 2 classes every 6 months would mean we would be drowning in skills by now.
The older classes would need maybe 20 new skills every time a chapter came out and we would now have another five games instead of Eye of the North.
So that's 20 primary classes.

The warrior got 40 core and 35 prophesies skills, another 30 from Factions and 25 from Nightfall.
That's 130 in total with another 5 chapters released you could double that.

Based on a release every April and October which was the Factions Nightfall time scale.

My guess is the lack of GW2 info is NCsoft pressure. Their "Babies with money" fear it would compete with Aion.

I'm quite sure that in the hands of a capable team of developers, the whole "one campaign every six months, no monthly-fee" business model COULD WORK.

"Capable team of developers" that is.

I don't care of they give info or not. I loved GW every second i played it. I'm sure they won't RED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GO up GW2 then. So i wouldn't mind having to wake up one day and go OMGWTFBBQ GW2 IS IN BETA!! Same with when it does come out.

Once they reach beta you guys will find something else to whine about anyway?

I feel that ArenaNet is handling the situation badly, by repeatedly telling fans how great the game is, how staff of both ArenaNet and NCSoft have played it, and silly things of that nature, without actually showing us anything of value. If they would stop hyping their own non-existent (so far as anyone on the outside knows) game, I would have no gripe with their lack of information on the subject. It's cool to say "we're working on it"; it is not so cool to say "we are playing this great game, maybe you'll see it next year if the rumors we will not confirm about the release are at all accurate".

We are not mules; we do not need carrots dangled in front of our faces. Especially when we are blindfolded, and can only smell the carrot. We can't tell if the carrot is actually there, just out of our reach, or if someone merely sprayed Eau de Daucus carota on a stick.

Well sure now I completely think that is the reason, and that's why I am not really frustrated, etc. anymore. We were promised info by the end of 2009, and right now Aion is up first. Perfectly fine with me.

Were we now? I just want to make it clear NOW instead of arguing with the BFB's cult followers later in the year whether we were promised of such thing or not.

This.

Although i do understand the reason for it, it annoys me a little bit that we get no new info at all on GW2, just cos they are scared that people wont buy aion.

to be perfectly honest, that makes me worry about the faith they have in their own games, lol.

The question right after the yak art.

Now what "more information" we will be getting could be anyone's guess. Could just be about the books. Could be something truly substantive about GW2. Who knows?

EDIT: Mike O'Brien also echoes this in MMOzine Isssue 11.

I'm content for now. Let them push their other games. Its better for us in the long run.

A longer dev time, the better the game will be. And if NC is doing well, I'm sure it will only help GW2 more.

*Also keep in mind that those other NC games most likely help keep GWs buy 2 play and without fees

Why should we even care about lack of info? When the time is right for info we will get some. Until that time comes we have choices; continue with GW, play other games, read books, etc.

There was news - in 2007.

A possibly amusing allegory; if GW1 was the old testament, and what we heard in '07 was like the "good news" and prophecy of the new, then the wait since then has been ... well ... the 2,000 years since then.

That would imply GW2 will be the second coming though, which is maybe going a bit too far. But there are plenty of other trivia I'm sure you can pull out of that.

Honestly, with WoW losing half of their "subscribers" (I put the term loosely, since most Chinese WoW players pay 6ยข an hour), I'm less worried about Guild Wars 2 perceived weakness.

When GW2 comes out (and it will, NCSoft would not promote Mike O'Brien if he was incompetent), it will sell based on the merits of the game, not based on how long it took to come out, or any lack of info at this point in time.

The GW2 announcement absolutely had to be made. What alternative was there? The absence of new chapters probably would've been noticed. The bigger problem I am having, and why I voted for the middle choice, is the lack of information about GW2. I take that as ex-blizzard people doing what blizzard does, but with the huge disadvantage of having to announce their project at its beginning instead of first unveiling a years or two before release. There's some paranoia there, but mainly I think its just a business model that anet management is comfortable with from their blizzard days.

I bought GW because the articles and information I read led me to believe that I could buy one game, play for free and buy new content on a fairly regular basis... i.e. I'd have a never-ending game. The idea was very appealing. I didn't start playing until post-NF pre-EotN so I purchased all three campaigns available at the time. Turns out, I was misled. My never-ending game was coming to an end. No matter though... EotN was released to hold us over until the sequel was released. Once again, I was misled.

I think more information (doesn't have to be specific top-secret info that can be used by other game developers) should be forthcoming and soon. Especially considering some recent events (XTH for example) are causing people to wonder if the coding department was replaced with inbred monkeys. You can only use "the check is in the mail" so many times before it becomes suspect.

As of today, I'm still planning on pre-ordering GW2 but I doubt I'll be able to say the same thing in a year.

New info on GW2 or new (real) content for GW!

You've taken 1 statement out of context, and even claim it was said on more than one occasion, which it wasn't. The only reason you were told the Developers play the game was because too many people were claiming the game didn't exist. They didn't tell you that as hype, I don't even see how that could be considered hype. If a company said they played their game, how is that hyping it up, it's just a simple statement of fact.

In 7 weeks is PAX, they will probably have something very nice for us.

I think I'm more interested in Diablo 3. On blizzard's diablo website, it has gameplay videos and it seems appealing. Guild Wars needs some GAMEPLAY and fans will be excited.
